| Inspired by the ancient land of the Khazars, Kuzari is a unique embroidery project in Jerusalem's exotic Bukharan Quarter.
This once elegant Quarter settled in the late 1800's by wealthy Jewish immigrants from Bukhara, Samarkand and Afghanistan, in central Asia, is now an extraordinary combination of ethnic groups. Out of this varied social fabric, Kuzari brings together three generations of women in a magnificant newly renovated turn of the century building. Here, stitch by stitch, these women are discovering their rich cultural heritage and bringing back to life the vibrant colors, exotic patterns and familiar symbols of Sephardi Jewry.
"Kuzari", originally founded in 1985, is currently under the ownership of the renowned "Gabrieli Hand Weaving" company from Old Jaffa. |
